We are looking for an excellent business teacher who is passionate about their subject area, ready to lead a new subject discipline across the school and keen to develop their practice in a dynamic and innovative teaching environment. School 21 is an all-through school and your role will have a particular emphasis on leading the teaching of business within our new sixth form, Six 21. Ideally, you will be an experienced A-level teacher with a background of teaching Business (either as an A-level or a BTEC) and it is essential that you have a passion for developing the best pedagogy for that age range. We are a school full of dynamic, entrepreneurial students, so there will be opportunities to design collaborative projects to explore the development of business skills throughout the school - for both primary and secondary ages.
We believe the teaching of business should make regular and sustained connections to the world around them, with students applying the theories they are learning to real world events. We see the subject as a platform for students to apply what they are learning through sustained and high quality work placements, (see the way we have reinvented work experience at with the opportunity for some students to start their own businesses within the school, or to offer their services to the community as freelancers. Business will be a popular subject within the sixth form, so we are looking for a confident teacher who can develop a distinctive and bold vision for the department going forward.
Since we opened in 2012 we have put learning and teaching at the heart of everything we do. We have developed a unique approach to oracy including setting up a charity, Voice 21(https://www.voice21.org/) which is already working with several hundred schools. We have also pioneered real world, interdisciplinary learning in collaboration with a network of extraordinary organisations: creative, artistic, high tech, professional.
At School 21 we believe that the purpose of education is to develop the whole child: head (academics), heart (character and well-being) and hand (generating ideas, problem solving, creating extraordinary authentic outcomes).
School 21 has established a strong track record - an outstanding Ofsted, excellent GCSE results and a growing reputation, for example being the first and only international case study chosen by US educators, Edutopia
Early application is encouraged as we are hoping to interview and appoint someone as soon as possible. School 21 reserves the right to close applications early and make an appointment at any stage.
