Politics Teacher with or without TLR

Salary: Inner London (competitive salary based on experience and skills)

Start date: September 2020
Contract: Full time, permanent, subject to an enhanced DBS check

We are looking for an excellent politics teacher who combines the rigour of A level success with the creativity of developing rich and exciting collaborative projects. Politics is a particularly popular A Level at Six 21 and we are seeking someone who thinks deeply about their craft as a politics teacher, who is reflective about the best ways to support our students’ literacy, and who values helping our students find their own authentic voice. In the last few years our students have visited the Supreme Court, taken part in debating competitions, heard from senior political advisers and written to their MPs - we are looking for someone who has the passion and vision to continue to deliver a real world politics curriculum.

School 21 is a very special and different kind of place to work in. We empower staff to find their voice and their creativity. We offer collaboration and learning across ages and subjects. All staff have a tailored programme of professional development which results in great outcomes for the students. We offer multiple routes to progression through subjects and pedagogies. We believe strongly in developing the full potential of all staff. Within this context your role will be to develop our student’s political understanding and ability to apply that understanding to the world around them. You will be trained in a range of pedagogies. These include Harkness discussions where 15 students debate and analyse historical texts around an oval table. You will become immersed in the language and techniques of well-being to ensure our children are ready to learn and thrive.

English Language is central to everything we do at School 21 and the successful candidate will also play an important part in supporting all students in their drive to become avid readers, fluent writers and confident speakers. Our oracy curriculum and teacher toolkit and our collaboration with Cambridge University has resulted in a school filled with purposeful talk and thinking. You will have the chance to shape this exciting area of the school’s culture.
