School 21 is one of the most exciting schools in the country, pioneering a range of wonderful approaches to the curriculum and teaching. This is a great time to join a science department that teaches from 4 to 18 and combines discrete science lessons with rich STEM projects. Whether you are teaching sixth form Chemistry, or developing deep thinking in our secondary school, School 21 is a place where there is a rich and exciting mix of ideas about the best pedagogies and curriculum. Ideally, you will be an experienced A-level and GCSE chemistry teacher and it is essential that you have a passion for developing the best pedagogy for that age range.
Science comes alive at School 21 as students grapple with the big ideas that underpin the world around us. Teachers plan challenging and exciting projects, develop thinking skills to a high level and foster collaborations with other subjects across the curriculum.
School 21 is a very special and different place to work in. We empower staff to find their voice and their creativity. We offer collaboration and learning across ages and subjects. All staff have a tailored programme of professional development and we offer multiple routes to progression through subjects and pedagogies. We believe strongly in developing the full potential of the staff.
Our aim in the sixth form will be for students to achieve the strongest possible academic results so that they can go on to university or other pathways they want to explore. We also want students to be stretched beyond the A-level course and to have the opportunity to experience science at the cutting edge of discovery. You will work alongside the other science teachers in an inspirational department to develop the curriculum and schemes of work. You will analyse student data to identify underachievement and develop intervention strategies to ensure all students make outstanding progress.
Since we opened in 2012 we have put learning and teaching at the heart of everything we do. We have developed a unique approach to oracy including setting up a charity, Voice 21 (https://www.voice21.org/) which is already working with several hundred schools. We have also pioneered real world, interdisciplinary learning in collaboration with a network of extraordinary organisations: creative, artistic, high tech, professional.
At School 21 we believe that the purpose of education is to develop the whole child: head (academics), heart (character and well-being) and hand (generating ideas, problem solving, creating extraordinary authentic outcomes).
School 21 has established a strong track record - an outstanding ofsted, excellent GCSE results and a growing reputation, for example being the first and only international case study chosen by US educators, Edutopia
