Salary: £35,000 to £45,000 per annum

The role

School 21 is a pioneering 4 to 18 school in East London with a mission to develop the whole child - head, heart and hand. The school is part of the Big Education Trust and works closely with a network of schools to deepen the impact of this expansive vision for education. School 21 has a range of exciting partnerships to enrich the curriculum and provide rich experiences for students. One of the key areas is our Real World Learning Programme which currently involves students in Years 10, 12 and 13 spending time each week in organisations working on projects co-designed between student and employer.  Your role will be to support the Real World Learning Manager by both overseeing the quality and development of this programme, as well as working with partners to ensure there is a pipeline of organisations keen to work with students. You will also find, curate, and develop partnerships to enhance the curriculum, working with subjects to support the quality of provision. Your role will also be to develop further a 4 to 18 careers programme that enhances the aspirations of students from all backgrounds.

School 21 is keen to share its practice and learn from a dialogue with others. Your role will also be to oversee and deliver a visits programme at School 21 that is coherent with the overall vision for visits across Big Education.

Key accountabilities

  • To manage a range of partnerships

  • To find a develop a range of partnerships

  • To oversee the Real World Learning Programme

  • To plan and hosts visits and events at the school

  • To work with teachers to enhance the curriculum with rich partnerships 

  • To work with the Big Education team on the wider partnerships and fundraising programme

  • Lead on School 21's careers provision, working with the Real World Learning Manager to provide a rich curriculum of speakers, events, projects and partnerships to give students opportunities to both taste and immerse themselves in the world of work

  • To line manage and develop others

  • To develop the reputation and impact of the school 


  • Ability to communicate effectively to a range of audiences, both written and verbally

  • A good story-teller, narrating the approach of the school and persuading employers to become partners

  • Attention to detail and multi-tasking - you will have a huge number of partners to keep happy

  • Strong initiative, with an ability to work to a high level of autonomy

  • Excellent stakeholder management skills (both internal and external)

  • Experience in leading and managing projects 

  • Ability to work under pressure and to work to deadlines as required

  • Ability and willingness to take on new projects

  • Reflective and open to feedback

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively when necessary
